Editorial Policy
These are the rules every Megawatt Index page follows.
Official and public sources only
Rows come from government agencies, utility commissions, legislatures, local governments, utilities and operators' own publications. News coverage can point us to a record, but a row is never sourced to a news story when an official record exists; where one does not, the row says so. We do not take figures from search engine summaries, and we do not copy datasets from other trackers or directories.
A source and a check date on every row
Each row stores the exact page it was checked against and the date of that check. A page's last updated date is the most recent check of any row on it.
Ranges, not false precision
When a page estimates something, it is labelled as an estimate, shown as a range, and the method and inputs are on the page. We never estimate a figure for a named facility.
No opinion
Summaries of bills, tariffs and ordinances describe what they do, in neutral language. We do not argue for or against data centers or any policy.
Use of AI tools
AI research tools help us find, read and structure sources. They do not supply facts: a row is published only with the official page it was checked against. Automated checks reject rows without a source or check date.
Updates and corrections
Trackers are rechecked on a schedule described in the methodology. Errors are fixed when reported and logged on the corrections page. Report one to corrections@megawattindex.com.
